Wild Banteng, so called Asian Red Bull, is native of the South-East Asia, the Islands of Java and Borneo. His housing environment is mainly constituted by rain forests. Domesticated by the man several centuries before JC, he was introduced into numerous islands of Indonesia and in 1849 in Australia. He was crossed with many more species of bovine animals as the ox of Bali, the water buffalo or the zebu, giving birth to numerous races of cattle. The horns of wild Banteng can achieve 80cm of length and are separated on the top of the head by a kind of helmet. Males can make 1,80m for the withers and weigh one ton. Declared critically endangered by the UICN, we estimate the total population of wild bantengs to 5 000 individuals.
